Overview
- Multiple outlets report that the Houston Astros are set to interview Albert Pujols this Thursday, with sources confirming the process on Wednesday.
- New general manager Randy Flores is running the search and has personal ties to Pujols from their Cardinals years, a connection noted by several reports as relevant to the decision.
- Pujols has no major‑league managing record but led Leones del Escogido to a Dominican league and Caribbean Series title and managed the Dominican Republic to the semifinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
- The club is also interviewing experienced coaches including Brad Ausmus, Morgan Ensberg and Luis Urueta, keeping the search focused on a mix of high‑profile former players and veteran MLB coaches.
- Pujols remains under a multi‑year personal‑services contract with the Angels, a logistical hurdle that would have to be resolved if Houston wants to hire him and that could shape timing and terms of any deal.
