Astros Place Spencer Arrighetti on 15-Day IL With Elbow Inflammation

Houston faces another gap in a battered staff built to lean on recent injury returns.

Overview

  • Arrighetti’s injured list stint is retroactive to Aug. 31.
  • The Astros selected reliever Jayden Murray from Triple-A Sugar Land and transferred John Rooney to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man spot.
  • Arrighetti returned Aug. 6 from a fractured right thumb and made five starts with a 5.26 ERA, finishing with 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball on Aug. 30.
  • His rotation turn was due Friday to open the Rangers series, and the Astros had not named a starter for that game as of Wednesday.
  • The club has reshuffled pitching roles as injuries continue, moving Lance McCullers Jr. to the bullpen, using AJ Blubaugh in long relief, keeping J.P. France at Triple-A, with Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia recently back from long layoffs.
