Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes will rehab his severe hamstring strain in hopes of returning this year rather than have season-ending surgery.

Overview

  • Isaac Paredes suffered a severe right hamstring strain on July 19 in Seattle and was placed on the injured list.
  • Paredes elected to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection and follow an extended rehab program in Houston instead of undergoing surgery.
  • GM Dana Brown highlighted Paredes’s commitment to returning this season and noted that surgery would have required at least six months of recovery.
  • Houston filled the vacant third base role at the trade deadline by reacquiring Carlos Correa and adding utility infielder Ramón Urías.
  • Paredes’s success with the rehab route will determine whether he can rejoin the AL West–leading Astros before the postseason.
