Overview
- Tuesday reports say the Seattle Mariners have been given permission to meet with Joe Espada about their open manager job and plan to interview him.
- Espada’s current contract expires at the end of October and the Astros have not publicly decided whether he will return for 2027.
- As Astros manager from 2024–26, Espada went 256-229 in the regular season and won two AL West titles but his teams were eliminated quickly in recent playoffs.
- Houston fired GM Dana Brown on Aug. 24 and owner Jim Crane said he will oversee baseball operations during the GM search, leaving managerial choices unsettled.
- If Seattle hires Espada it would be a rare in-division move and could speed Seattle’s coaching overhaul while forcing the Astros to name a new manager after their front-office reset.
