Astros Activate Isaac Paredes for Pivotal Series Against Mariners

Overview

  • Houston reinstated the All-Star infielder Friday, returning him from a right hamstring strain suffered July 19 in Seattle.
  • Yordan Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain (retroactive to Sept. 16), and Kaleb Ort moved to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man spot.
  • Manager Joe Espada has indicated Paredes will be used primarily as designated hitter with instructions to avoid full-speed base running.
  • Paredes had no minor-league rehab games and had been taking live at-bats and fielding in West Palm Beach during his non-surgical recovery.
  • Before the injury, Paredes hit .259/.359/.470 with 19 home runs in 94 games, and his return comes as Houston and Seattle enter the series tied atop the AL West.
