Astral Ascent Adds Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in Free Switch Update

The free patch adds bespoke bosses, six recruitable summons, run-specific rooms that reshape late-game choices.

Overview

  • Hibernian Workshop released a free crossover update for Astral Ascent on Nintendo Switch that integrates characters, bosses, music and environments from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
  • The update introduces three bespoke bosses — Golgra, the Mime and Pétank — each with new multi‑phase behaviors and combat mechanics that force players to relearn encounter patterns.
  • Players gain six Expedition summons (Gustave, Maelle, Sciel, Lune, Verso and Monoco) at the Campfire, with each summon providing a unique in-run mechanic such as healing plus a charged finisher, stance-based attacks, card-driven effects, elemental spells, rank-based damage boosts, or random monster summons.
  • Expedition 33 adds three new rooms — Lumière, The Gestral Village and The Campfire — which appear at random late in runs as a mutually exclusive choice against the Andromeda Bar so passing an option removes it for that run.
  • The content is free to download on Switch and unlocks only after players beat the base game on Destiny Level 0, a gating choice meant to integrate the crossover into later-stage runs and extend replayability.
