AstaGuru Auction Showcases 35 Handwritten Rabindranath Tagore Letters and Indian Art Treasures

Overview

  • AstaGuru’s online ‘Collectors Choice’ auction will run from June 26 to 27 and spotlight rare literary and artistic treasures.
  • The centerpiece is a set of 35 letters Tagore wrote to Dhurjati Prasad Mukerji between 1927 and 1936, estimated at Rs 5–7 crore.
  • Classified as National Art Treasure, the letters cannot be exported and include at least four previously unpublished drafts penned on varied letterheads.
  • Other marquee lots include M F Husain’s large-format painting of Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi (Rs 2–3 crore) and A Ramachandran’s ‘Visions of Ramdev – Ahalya in Red’ (Rs 1.2–1.6 crore).
  • Additional offerings feature Tagore’s 1883 quartzite sculpture ‘The Heart’ (Rs 55–70 lakh) alongside works by Nandalal Bose, Krishen Khanna and J P Gangooly.
