Assen Expo Hall Shelter Extended to Feb. 1 After Hague Site Delay

Water damage at the planned Hague site forced COA to delay the move, keeping the Assen hall open longer.

Overview

  • Roughly 200 residents were scheduled to relocate today and tomorrow, but the transfer was halted at short notice.
  • COA reported that water damage at the new Hague building requires repairs before reception can begin.
  • Spokesperson Alet Bouwmeester said ensuring adequate reception for residents remains the organization’s priority.
  • The Assen hall has operated since November 2021 for up to 500 people to ease pressure on the Ter Apel registration centre.
  • Following criticism from NGOs and the Inspectorate, COA implemented changes at the site including noise reduction, increased privacy and improved food.
