Assam STF Arrests 11 in AssamTripura Raids Targeting Bangladesh-Linked IMK Module

Investigators link the suspects to an IMK cell directed from Bangladesh, with digital recruitment and cross-border funding now under probe.

Overview

  • The Special Task Force detained ten suspects across Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang and Darrang and one in West Tripura in simultaneous raids on December 29–30 following central intelligence inputs.
  • Police identify the network as Imam Mahmuder Kafila, alleged to be an offshoot of banned JMB, with the Assam cell led by Nasim Uddin alias Tamim and the Tripura arrestee named as Jagir Miah.
  • Recruitment was allegedly run through encrypted platforms, including a group called Purba/Purva Akash, which circulated propaganda and required recruits to submit video oaths for validation by Bangladesh-based handlers.
  • Investigators cite cash pooling, hawala channels and small bank or UPI transfers routed to Bangladesh, along with travel on valid documents for meetings and training, including a Meghalaya rendezvous in April 2025.
  • A case has been registered under BNS and UAPA, materials were seized without any reported arms, and interrogations are underway with further phases and arrests possible.
