Assam Stages Statewide Theatrical Farewell as 'Roi Roi Binale' Opens Today

The government will direct its GST share from ticket sales to Zubeen Garg’s Kalaguru Artiste Foundation as an official tribute.

Overview

  • From October 31, theatres across Assam are dedicating their screens to Roi Roi Binale, with other titles paused according to exhibitors and distributors.
  • Advance bookings have filled most shows for days, with schedules stretching from around 4:35–4:45 am to past midnight and some sites planning up to seven daily screenings.
  • Long-closed venues including Jagiroad’s Ganesh Talkies and Tihu’s Gandhi Bhawan have been refurbished or reopened specifically to host the release.
  • The rollout extends beyond the Northeast to roughly 90 locations nationwide, with UFO Moviez citing demand in cities that have never screened an Assamese film.
  • Assam Police will deploy personnel outside cinemas for crowd management, while Garima Saikia Garg thanked the chief minister for pledging the state’s GST share to the foundation that aids artistes, flood relief and students, with transfers expected about a month after collection.
