Assam SIT Arrests DSP Cousin of Zubeen Garg as Death Probe Widens

The investigation now centres on money trails alongside overseas cooperation under legal channels.

Overview

  • Deputy superintendent Sandipan Garg, who was on the Singapore yacht with the singer, was arrested and remanded to seven days of police custody.
  • Five people are now in custody, including event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, musicians Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, and the DSP cousin.
  • Two of the singer’s personal security officers were suspended after investigators flagged transactions of over ₹1 crore in their accounts, with ED and Income Tax scrutiny requested.
  • The SIT will issue fresh summons to members of Assam Association Singapore after most failed to appear; only Rupkamal Kalita has joined questioning so far.
  • Singapore’s autopsy and death certificate cite drowning and earlier ruled out foul play, even as Assam CID has added a murder charge in its consolidated case.
