Overview
- Under the new Babu Asoni scheme, eligible postgraduate male students will receive Rs 2,000 a month and undergraduates Rs 1,000 a month starting Feb. 1.
- Eligibility is limited to households with annual income up to Rs 4 lakh, and students whose parents are government employees are excluded.
- Over 37 lakh Orunodoi beneficiaries will get a one-time Rs 8,000 transfer on Feb. 20 in place of monthly disbursements during the election period.
- The Rs 8,000 comprises the Orunodoi allowance for January through April plus a special Rs 3,000 Bohag Bihu gift.
- From this month, more than 2.44 crore ration card holders can buy one kilogram each of masoor dal, sugar and salt for Rs 100 in total.
