Overview
- On January 15, Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle in Aizawl’s Zemabawk area and recovered 9.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at over Rs 29.4 crore.
- The driver, identified as Lalrinchhana, was arrested after a sniffer dog helped detect tablets concealed inside the vehicle’s tyres.
- The seized drugs and vehicle were handed to the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Aizawl office for investigation and action under the NDPS Act.
- A day earlier, Mizoram Police and the Excise and Narcotics Department seized 11.118 kg near Khatla and about 1.89 kg at Dapchhuah Check Post, arresting five people, including four from Assam’s Sribhumi district.
- Preliminary findings indicate the consignments were smuggled from Myanmar toward Assam, reflecting the vulnerabilities of Mizoram’s long unfenced borders.
