Overview
- The Assam Police Special Task Force seized 2,70,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 67 crore and 520 grams of heroin worth Rs 4 crore during two separate operations in Kamrup district on April 18.
- The drugs were intercepted from a truck and a Hyundai car in the Amingaon area, both vehicles reportedly coming from a neighboring state.
- Two drivers, identified as Nur Islam (34) and Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22), were arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
- The operation was led by STF chief Parthasarathi Mahanta, with assistance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak.
- Officials suspect the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar and were intended for illegal trade in Bangladesh or other parts of India, highlighting the role of Assam as a transit point in transnational drug trafficking.
