Overview

  • Over two days, Assam Police raided 178 eateries, hotels and slaughterhouses under a suo-motu drive, detaining 196 people for alleged Cattle Preservation Act violations.
  • Officers seized 1,732 kilograms of meat suspected to be beef during the intensified operation.
  • The 2021 Cattle Preservation Act bans cattle slaughter and beef sale within a five-kilometre radius of temples or satras in mostly Hindu, Jain and Sikh areas while allowing private consumption.
  • Targeted intelligence-led raids in Dibrugarh resulted in three arrests and recovery of 20 kilograms of beef.
