  • Two men from Sribhumi district were arrested for using forged documents of the deceased Farooq Ahmed to apply for an Indian passport on behalf of a Bangladeshi national.
  • Authorities seized a voter ID, birth certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, photographs and a computer used in creating the fake papers and have sent the device for forensic analysis.
  • The Bangladeshi individual intended to receive the passport remains untraced, leading investigators to suspect similar forgeries may have been issued to other foreign nationals.
  • At New Bongaigaon railway station, Assam Police detained eight Bangladeshi youths for illegal entry and possession of counterfeit Indian identity documents linked to a human trafficking racket.
  • Police registered multiple cases and are investigating whether government officials facilitated the document forgery as part of a broader national crackdown on cross-border fraud.
