Assam Police Add Murder Charge in Zubeen Garg Case, Arrest Two More Musicians

Investigators now hold four people in custody as they examine seized devices and await forensic reports from India and Singapore routed through MLAT channels.

Earlier, SIT and CID teams conducted raids at the houses of Zubeen Garg's Manager, Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg's colleague musician, Sekhar Jyoti Goswami and Shyamkanu Mahanta.

  • Musicians Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta were arrested in Guwahati after questioning, a day after the detention of manager Siddhartha Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta.
  • All four have been remanded to 14 days’ police custody as the CID/SIT escalated the case by adding Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to murder.

  • CID officials said multiple phones were seized, including Garg’s handset, and a separate financial investigation into Shyamkanu Mahanta’s alleged benami assets and money laundering is underway.
  • Singapore authorities have transmitted their autopsy report to India via diplomatic channels, with The Straits Times reporting that local police ruled out foul play, while Assam Police await CFSL Delhi viscera findings and continue their probe.
