Assam Orders Departments to Ready Databases for NATGRID Link-Up

The step aims to speed up secure data access for counter-terror and policing.

Overview

  • Assam’s chief secretary issued the directive Friday after a video conference chaired by the Union home secretary with state and UT leaders.
  • Departments were told to identify and map the datasets they hold so they can be connected to the National Intelligence Grid under set protocols.
  • Officials called for close work with technical agencies to build APIs and establish secure connectivity needed for the data links.
  • Proposed sources include Smart City feeds, utility bills, land and property records, crime and offence logs, licensing files, education data, and welfare beneficiary lists.
  • NATGRID, a Home Ministry platform cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security, is designed to give authorised agencies controlled, real-time access to data, and officials noted wider state adoption and ongoing police training.
