Overview

• Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Jagdish Chandra Bose campus of Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya in Hojai, built at Rs 57.34 crore.
• He committed an additional Rs 50 crore to expand the university and connect the campus directly to the National Highway.
• The state will set up a NIELIT centre at the university and launch diploma and certificate courses in bio-informatics and artificial intelligence.
• On September 1, the government approved more than 200 additional seats across medical colleges in Guwahati, Silchar and Dibrugarh to ease training bottlenecks.
• Sarma linked the education drive to projected demand for 30,000 workers at the Jagiroad semiconductor plant and 10,000 at a 3,200 MW thermal power project, while cautioning about low science enrollment and urging qualitative learning.
