Overview
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the West Karbi Anglong District Hospital in Hamren, marking it operational with a 100-bed capacity.
- Built under the National Health Mission at about Rs 30 crore, the three-storey complex spans 62 bighas with a reported 81,055 sq ft of built-up area.
- Core services include emergency care, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, radiology, ICU, operating theatres, laboratories, pharmacy, X-ray and ECG, plus a blood bank and staff quarters.
- The government has recruited anesthetists and plans phased additions including a CT scanner by December, potential dialysis based on demand, and efforts to start caesarean deliveries.
- A GNM nursing school is planned at the site, with classrooms ready and operations to begin after hostel construction, while improved road links and nearby projects such as Diphu’s medical college and a planned cancer hospital frame the regional expansion.
