Assam Minister Distributes 2,145 Land Titles, Relaunches Sakomatha Irrigation Scheme
Structured oversight will govern the Sakomatha irrigation revival as the government cements tribal land security under the Forest Rights Act
Overview
- On July 28, Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal handed over 2,145 land title certificates in Bishwanath district, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under the Forest Rights Act to 11,982
- The certificates were issued through 82 forest rights committees with 1,336 beneficiaries in Bishwanath, 509 in Naduar, 157 in Gahpur and 143 in Bihali constituencies
- The revived Sakomatha scheme received a ₹3.30 crore investment to restore water access for 800 hectares of farmland after remaining inactive since 1977–78
- Singhal instructed the District Commissioner to form a Water Users’ Committee and mandated weekly inspections by joint teams from the Irrigation and Agriculture Departments
- MLAs Pramod Barthakur, Utpal Bora and Diganta Ghatwal joined Zilla Parishad chairperson Sunita Tanty, District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das and other senior officials at the ceremonies
