Overview
- State functions are being held in Guwahati at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samanway Tirtha from 9 am and at Latasil from 11 am, with AASU hosting a tribute at Dighalipukhuri and lighting 10,000 lamps in the evening, as the day carries a somber tone following the recent deaths of Zubeen Garg and Dipak Sarma.
- Diphu will stage an 11 am commemoration at KASA Stadium with about 5,000 participants forming a human chain and singing “Manuhe Manuhor Babe.”
- The government coordinated mass performances across districts, with students in 35 districts set to sing Hazarika’s signature hymn and rehearsals highlighted by the chief minister’s tribute on social media.
- On November 4, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented Sarhad’s Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika National Awards to six Northeast achievers, an honor carrying Rs 51,000, a citation and a memento.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans for a 100-foot statue near the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge and said the state is seeking United Nations recognition for “Manuhe Manuhor Babe.”
