Assam Launches CM-FLIGHT to Train Youth in Japanese for Overseas Jobs

The state unveiled subsidised instruction with Japanese partners to build a pipeline for Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker visas.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the programme in Guwahati and set a goal of facilitating employment in Japan for 50,000 youths from Assam.
  • Initial Japanese-language classes begin at the NorthEast Skill Centre with three partners—ASEAN ONE, Jaceex Ventures and Meiko Career Partners—providing training and placement support.
  • Sarma announced the total course fee was cut to Rs 1.8 lakh with the candidate share at Rs 30,000, covered alongside Rs 1 lakh from Assam and Rs 50,000 from Japan, with Axis Bank loan support reported.
  • Reports differ on first-batch size, with 180 trainees cited in one account and 200 in another, and the government says more centres may open at Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University if demand rises.
  • Officials emphasized JLPT N2 proficiency and eligibility under age 45 with minimum Class 10–graduate education, targeting sectors such as nursing care, construction, food service, driving and IT; no government-mediated placements have occurred yet.
