Assam Launches 7-Month Subsidised Dal, Sugar and Salt Scheme for NFSA Households

The rollout uses digitised authentication at fair price shops to curb duplication.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the programme in Guwahati on 10 November with simultaneous district events and live-streams to thousands of FPS outlets.
  • NFSA beneficiaries can collect 1 kg each of masoor/moong dal, sugar and salt per ration card, with the inaugural distribution window set for 10–19 November and monthly windows from the 1st–10th starting December.
  • Prices are fixed at Rs 69/kg for dal, Rs 38/kg for sugar and Rs 10/kg for salt in November–December, dropping to Rs 60, Rs 30 and Rs 10 from January through May 2026.
  • Dibrugarh district said it will continue free rice at 1 kg per family per month and has mandated mobile or biometric verification to link each ration card to its allotted packages.
  • Kokrajhar reported 100% lifting of stocks from state warehouses ahead of distribution, and handling margins were set at Rs 2/kg for FPS dealers and Rs 1.80/kg for panchayats or cooperatives.
