Assam Floats Tender as Kamakhya Temple Ropeway Projects Gain Momentum
Completion is expected by June 2026 to halve pilgrims’ transfer times from the station.
Overview
- National Highways Logistics Management Ltd floated tenders on June 24 for the 1.43 km station ropeway, covering design, construction, operation and maintenance under a Rs 201 crore contract.
- The system will transport up to 1,000 passengers per hour in each direction and complete the ascent in roughly seven minutes.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said work has advanced significantly and that the station link will be completed before the Sonaram Field–temple ropeway.
- Feasibility studies are underway for the Sonaram Field connection and additional routes at Barak Bhuban Tirtha and Biswanath Umataloni in the Barak Valley.
- Officials project the ropeways will slash pilgrim transfer times by up to 60 percent, expand temple open space to nearly 100,000 sq ft and drive tourism growth.
