Assam Donates GST From ‘Roi Roi Binale’ as Cinemas Move to Exclusive Statewide Run

The state’s share will support Zubeen Garg’s Kalaguru Artiste Foundation with his wife’s consent.

Overview

  • From October 31, theatres across Assam are set to screen only Roi Roi Binale, with other releases paused to concentrate shows on the film.
  • Advance bookings are surging, with many shows sold out and some halls scheduling up to five to seven daily screenings starting before dawn, as police prepare for crowd management.
  • UFO Moviez says about 91 screens in the Northeast and roughly 90 elsewhere in India will play the film at launch, with additional screens being added to meet demand.
  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state will transfer its half of GST on tickets (9% above Rs 100 and 2.5% at Rs 100 or less) to the foundation about a month after collection, noting Assam has no entertainment tax.
  • Exhibition infrastructure is being revived for the release, including a refurbished 336-seat Gandhi Bhawan in Tihu supported by government grants and ongoing work to reopen Jagiroad’s Ganesh Talkies.
