Assam District Issues Show-Cause to Morigaon Gynaecologist Over 21 C-Sections in 10 Hours

Officials say the review centers on sterilisation compliance with emphasis on case records vital for infection control.

Overview

  • An official notice dated September 6 was served by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Nitisha Bora to senior gynaecologist Dr Kantheswar Bordoloi of Morigaon Civil Hospital.
  • The memorandum cites 21 emergency lower-segment caesarean sections conducted between 3:40 pm on September 5 and 1:50 am on September 6 in the hospital’s major operating theatre.
  • The doctor was directed to submit case-wise reports within three days covering adherence to sterilisation SOPs, documentation of fetal distress, SNCU admissions, and the roles of assisting staff.
  • The administrative review noted inadequate preoperative and postoperative notes, identifying gaps that could compromise infection control and maternal–neonatal safety.
  • Dr Bordoloi defended his pace by citing two operating tables and 15–25 minute procedures, said he has filed his explanation, and reported 19 discharges with two patients still hospitalised including one referred to GMCH.
