Assam CM Says Zubeen Garg’s Death Was ‘Plain and Simple Murder’ in Assembly

A state SIT holds seven in custody under BNS and plans to file a December chargesheet after receiving central sanction and forensic material from Singapore and India.

Overview

  • On the opening day of the winter session, the Speaker admitted an Opposition adjournment motion at the chief minister’s request and urged members not to hamper the investigation.
  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed one person killed Garg with help from four to five others and said four to five people will be booked, pledging a “watertight” chargesheet in December.
  • The SIT added BNS Section 103 for murder within days of the September 19 death, has examined 252 witnesses, seized 29 items, and arrested seven including NEIF organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, two bandmates, cousin Sandipan Garg and two PSOs.
  • Officials are targeting chargesheet filing around December 8–10, and the one‑member commission led by Justice Soumitra Saikia extended its evidence deadline to December 12.
  • Assam cites autopsy, viscera and combined forensic reports and cooperation under MLAT with MHA sanction, even as Singapore Police earlier said they did not suspect foul play.
