Assam CM Lays Out January–February Infrastructure Timeline

Overview

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for the 34.45 km Kaziranga Elevated Corridor in mid-January, a Rs 6,957 crore project cleared by the CCEA to improve travel while protecting wildlife.
• The bridge linking Guwahati and North Guwahati is expected to open to the public in February, as the state reports four new Brahmaputra bridges under construction.
• The Centre has approved a Rs 22,000 crore twin-tube underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh that will serve as a combined road-and-rail corridor.
• An MoU with the Asian Development Bank has been signed for a Rs 2,200 crore new hospital at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, replacing the existing structure.
• Sarma said the Prime Minister is likely to lay the foundation for the proposed Gelephu railway line in February, and announced Assam will constitute the 8th State Pay Commission.
