Assam CM Launches MMUA in Tinsukia, Distributes Rs 10,000 to 14,301 Women

The rollout begins a three-year ladder of higher support tied to SHG performance.

Overview

  • At a Tinsukia event, Himanta Biswa Sarma handed cheques to 14,301 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan, each receiving Rs 10,000.
  • The Chief Minister said all constituencies in Tinsukia will be brought under the scheme by November–December.
  • Officials outlined a phased plan in which fund use will be reviewed after four to five months, with eligible SHG members slated for Rs 25,000 next year and Rs 50,000 in the third year.
  • Sarma cited the programme’s scale and costs, estimating Rs 4,000 crore for the initial Rs 10,000 tranche to 40 lakh members and Rs 10,500 crore for the Rs 25,000 phase.
  • Framing the drive through Assam’s SHG network of about 4 lakh groups with roughly 40 lakh women, the CM paired personal distribution events and rebuttals to Opposition criticism with local outreach in Tinsukia.
