Overview

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone on July 25 for a Rs 65-crore government complex to house ministers’ offices, the chief secretary, additional chief secretary and a convention centre in Dibrugarh.
  • On July 24, he initiated a Rs 146.43-crore infrastructure upgrade at Dibrugarh University under the Chief Minister’s Special Grant and PM-USHA to expand hostels, academic blocks and research facilities.
  • The CM also launched a Rs 357-crore, three-phase expansion of Assam Medical College and Hospital, which includes new faculty and student residences and three 3-Tesla MRI machines funded by ZIKA loans.
  • A separate Rs 206-crore project was announced to transform the heritage Berry White Hospital into a modern city hospital while preserving its legacy.
  • Sarma urged universities to modernize curricula to align with job market needs and reinforced plans to strengthen Dibrugarh as Assam’s second capital hub for improved regional governance.
