Assam Clears 3,000-Bigha Transfer at Doloo for Silchar Greenfield Airport

The state says the clearance allows it to seek Union Cabinet approval next.

Overview

  • The cabinet increased the proposed site to 3,000 bighas from 2,500 bighas, raising the footprint to nearly 992 acres.
  • The new airport is proposed because the existing Kumbhirgram facility is a defence airport with limited scope for civilian expansion.
  • The government cites earlier assistance to 1,296 families and a ₹50 crore compensation package as workers represented by AMSU continue to voice objections, while officials promise no evictions or job losses.
  • A joint project at Assam Engineering College with Dassault Systems worth ₹243 crore was approved, with ₹200 crore from Dassault and ₹43 crore from the state to offer aerospace, defence, automotive and EV courses.
  • Other approvals include administrative clearance for a ₹335 crore Sainik School with 80% Ministry of Defence funding, compensation for 884 families affected by a highway project in Dima Hasao, and the Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025.
