  • On May 23, 2025, Assam's Health Minister Ashok Singhal awarded official certifications to five institutions to operate ART clinics, ART banks, and surrogacy centers.
  • The certified institutions include Apollo Fertility, Downtown Hospital, GMCH Fertility and IVF Centre, The Institute of Human Reproduction (all in Guwahati), and Swasti Hospital in Rangia.
  • This development follows the implementation of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, along with rules notified in 2022.
  • Assam established its State ART and Surrogacy Board and Appropriate Authority in December 2023 to oversee applications and ensure compliance with national standards.
  • Applications were processed via the National ART & Surrogacy Portal, involving online submissions, inspections, and a statewide advertisement drive launched in January 2025.
