Assam Cabinet Mandates State History, Geography for Classes 6–8, Clears CoE, Sainik School and Airport Land

The rollout will contend with large teacher vacancies alongside widespread facility shortfalls reported to the Assembly.

Overview

  • History and geography specific to Assam will be compulsory in Classes 6, 7 and 8 with separate 50‑mark exams, implementing a Clause 6 panel recommendation.
  • A Rs 243.66 crore Centre of Excellence at Assam Engineering College was approved with Dassault Systems India, focusing on aerospace and defence, automotive and electric vehicles, with Rs 200 crore from the company and Rs 43 crore from the state.
  • Administrative approval was granted for a new Sainik School at Longvaku in Karbi Anglong at about Rs 335 crore with an 80:20 central‑state funding pattern, and Rs 100 crore has already been released by the Centre.
  • The cabinet okayed transfer of 3,000 bighas from Doloo Tea Estate to AAI for a proposed greenfield airport, while a final central decision on the project is awaited, and it adopted the Assam Logistics & Warehousing Policy, 2025.
  • The decisions follow disclosures that over 1,400 interior schools lack drinking water and toilets and that nearly 28,000 teaching posts remain vacant across government schools.
