Assam Cabinet Greenlights Broad Welfare, Health and Land Reforms Including Tea Worker Grants

Overview

  • The Cabinet approved a Rs 342 crore grant under the Mukhya Mantri Eti Koli Duti Paat scheme to provide Rs 5,000 each to about 7 lakh tea workers and employers.
  • The state cleared a Rs 800 crore Medanta investment for a 500-bed hospital, 100-bed maternity and childcare wing and a five-star Lemon Tree hotel in Guwahati and sanctioned a Rs 357 crore upgrade of Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.
  • A National University for Disability Studies was approved at Deosar in Kamrup district, with an ₹8.63 crore premium waiver to allocate 150 bigha of land for the campus.
  • Mission Basundhara 3 reforms will issue land pattas to 4,000 institutions and hydrocarbon exploration was exempted from the 2015 land reclassification act to allow direct landowner negotiations.
  • The Revenue Department declared a drought-like situation in five western Assam districts to trigger relief measures, and employees of Assam’s power utilities and Adarsha Vidyalayas gained access to government medical reimbursement benefits.
