Overview

  • The CBI has agreed in principle to assume the probe and expects to formalize the handover within 20–25 days after Union Home Ministry clearance.
  • A seven-member SIT completed videography, forensic examinations by the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, inquest, post-mortem and CDR analysis before initiating the transfer.
  • Three suspects—including SDO Aminul Islam and Executive Engineer Dinesh Medhi named in Das’s note—remain in judicial custody on abetment of suicide charges.
  • Das’s handwritten note accused senior PWD officials of coercing her to approve inflated bills for a Bongaigaon mini-stadium, underscoring alleged systemic corruption.
  • Statewide protests and political demands have intensified calls for stronger harassment protections, mental-health support and anticorruption safeguards in Assam’s public departments.
