Overview
- The Assam Cabinet on Sunday approved the Rs 50,000-crore Vision 2047 capital package with projects to be rolled out from 2027-28 and executed over seven years.
- The state worked out a funding split of Rs 30,000 crore in loans from NABARD and Rs 20,000 crore from the state’s own resources, a move that will increase planned public borrowing over the coming years.
- The package prioritises social and physical infrastructure including primary healthcare, upgrades to schools, 6,000 new anganwadi centres, housing support for tea garden families, women's markets and flood-protection embankments.
- The government approved specific allocations such as about 1,000 schools receiving Rs 7 crore each, Rs 1.5 lakh per eligible tea garden worker family for a pucca house, and a series of district- and constituency-level projects.
- Cabinet cleared several ancillary projects including a 30 MW solar plant with 25 MW battery storage at Goalpara, 1,174 bighas of land for industrial estates, land for a milk-processing centre, Rs 109 crore for Gauhati University works, and a reported Rs 600 crore sanction for a proton beam therapy unit at Gauhati Medical College that remains limited in sourcing and will need further confirmation and planning.
