Assam Adds 40 High-Speed Rescue Boats to SDRF Fleet
The delivery extends ASDMA’s multi-year build-out to a 301-boat rescue fleet enabling faster flood response.
Overview
- The handover at Guwahati’s Gateway Ghat featured a 15-boat procession on the Brahmaputra and live rescue drills by SDRF personnel.
- The motorized inflatable craft come with 30-horsepower engines, life jackets and rescue gear, and can evacuate eight to ten people at a time.
- Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta inaugurated the induction and said the boats will speed operations during floods, water accidents and other emergencies.
- ASDMA reports providing 52 boats in the 2025–26 financial year, including units allotted to Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa national parks to support wildlife rescues during floods.
- Separately, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed Rs 10,000 each to 30,655 women in Borsola under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.
