Asphalt Plant Breakdown Leaves A2 Near Bottrop One-Lane, Causing Long Jams and Ramp Closures

Ramp closures stretched into the evening when congestion trapped the replacement mixing plant.

Overview

  • A defect at the asphalt mixing plant halted night works on the A2 toward Oberhausen between Gladbeck‑Ellinghorst and Dreieck Bottrop.
  • About 200 meters of milled roadway cannot be reopened, leaving only one lane in service and likely keeping the restriction in place all Wednesday.
  • Regional traffic services reported roughly nine to more than ten kilometres of congestion with delays of around 20 minutes in the morning peak.
  • On‑ramps at Herten, Gelsenkirchen‑Buer, EssenGladbeck and Gladbeck‑Ellinghorst were closed to ease pressure on the motorway, with police indicating closures at least until 19:00.
  • Separately, Autobahn GmbH Rheinland confirmed a full closure of the A59 toward Leverkusen from 15 October for eight months, with diversions via the A3 and A542.
