Aslef Announces Series of Train Strikes Across England
LNER Drivers to Stage Additional Five-Day Strike Amid Long-Running Pay Dispute
- Train drivers' union Aslef has announced a series of strikes and overtime bans across 16 train operators in England from January 30 to February 5, affecting each operator on a different day.
- LNER drivers, in addition to the aforementioned strikes, will also stage a five-day strike from February 5 and refuse non-contractual overtime from February 7 to 10.
- The strikes are part of a long-running pay dispute that began in the summer of 2022, with Aslef accusing the government and train operating companies of failing to engage to end the row.
- The strikes could be the first test of new regulations aimed at ensuring a minimum level of service during walkouts, set at 40% in the transport sector.
- The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, which had also been striking since June 2022, voted in December to suspend industrial action until at least April 2024 in exchange for a backdated pay offer.
