Overview

  • The prototype was developed with Inclusive Sportswear and mental health charity Mind to tackle comfort, fit and privacy barriers cited by girls.
  • Research with 2,000 girls aged 14 to 16 found 74% would enjoy PE more with comfier kit and 70% would be more likely to take part.
  • Students at Burnley High School trialled the design in an area identified by Sport England for low PE participation rates.
  • The three-piece design includes convertible sprinter shorts that become a skort or looser shorts, detachable layers for weather and temperature changes, and an inner liner that can be worn as a gilet.
  • Darker, sweat-wicking fabrics and concealed zip pockets address period concerns and storage needs, with an emergency hair tie built into the zip.
