ASI Report Allegedly Finds Evidence of Pre-Existing Hindu Temple Beneath Gyanvapi Mosque

The report, yet to be made public, reportedly states that the temple was destroyed and part of it was reused in the mosque's construction during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

  • The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has reportedly found evidence of a pre-existing Hindu temple beneath the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, according to Vishnu Jain, the lawyer for the Hindu petitioners.
  • The ASI report allegedly found that the temple was destroyed during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the 17th century, and part of it was modified and reused in the existing structure of the mosque.
  • The report also allegedly found remnants of statues of Hindu gods in the basements during the court-ordered survey, and inscriptions on the stones of the pre-existing Hindu temples were reused during the construction of the mosque.
  • The Muslim side has disputed these claims, with their lawyer Akhlaq Ahmad stating that 'whatever the Hindu side is saying is false reporting'.
  • The case is ongoing and the full ASI report has not been made public yet, but the court has ordered it to be released soon.
