Ashok Leyland Inaugurates Lucknow EV Bus Plant With 2,500-Unit Capacity

Built in roughly 18 months, the plant repurposes the Scooters India site with an initial outlay of about ₹252 crore.

  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath opened the facility in Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, on January 9.
  • Annual output starts at 2,500 vehicles with plans to scale to 5,000, using an integrated chassis and bus line geared for EVs and future ICE and alternative-fuel platforms.
  • The first phase investment totals about ₹252 crore within a project planned at roughly ₹1,000 crore.
  • The company and state project direct employment around 1,000 jobs and indirect employment near 2,000, with skill training for 10,000 youth each year.
  • The plant carries IGBC Platinum credentials with a 1 MW solar array, zero liquid discharge, full rainwater harvesting and an in-house sewage treatment system.
