Asda Restarts Express Rollout in October With 20+ New UK Stores

The restart builds on Asda’s integration of 469 acquired convenience sites, signalling a renewed push into areas where the grocer has had limited presence.

Overview

  • The programme begins with an Asda Express in Castleford in early October, followed by about 21 openings over four weeks from late October.
  • Asda published a full list of locations, including 10 sites across London plus stores in Manchester, Liverpool, Bradford, Wigan, Botley, Ferndown, Deepcut and Horncastle.
  • The expansion targets high‑footfall urban areas, residential neighbourhoods and transport hubs where the retailer has historically had a smaller footprint.
  • Asda says Express stores stock up to 3,000 products and are outperforming the wider convenience market, with the estate expected to near 500 sites by year‑end.
  • The standalone rollout resumes after converting 469 Co‑op and EG Group sites, with separate upgrades reported for in‑store cafes and digital shopping features.
