Overview

  • The refurbishments, led by Compass, run from June to October across 180 of Asda’s 205 in-store cafés.
  • Cafés will feature digital ordering screens, a table ordering service and manned tills to streamline customer experience.
  • The menu will add dishes such as smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls, wraps, a sharing range and café pizzas.
  • Asda will keep all 205 cafés open despite Sainsbury’s closing 61 and Morrisons shutting 52 due to low customer use and high operating costs.
  • The investment follows Asda’s pledge of its largest price cuts in 25 years under returning boss Allan Leighton and builds on VP Ian McEvans’s view that cafés are key to the shopping experience.
