Ascension Wisconsin and UnitedHealthcare Reach Deal Restoring In-Network Care

Services from Oct. 1–13 will be treated as in-network to prevent surprise bills.

Overview

  • The renewed, multi-year agreement takes effect immediately and restores access at Ascension Wisconsin hospitals, clinics and outpatient facilities for UnitedHealthcare members.
  • Coverage applies to employer and individual commercial plans, Medicare Advantage including Group Retiree and DSNP, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plans in Wisconsin.
  • Ascension held claims from Oct. 1–13, and those services will be processed at in-network rates so patients should not receive out-of-network charges.
  • The lapse that began Oct. 1 prompted thousands to seek new providers or switch insurers, with other systems reporting higher call volumes and long wait times.
  • Ascension cited the need for fair, sustainable reimbursement, while UnitedHealthcare said the agreement maintains access to quality, affordable care under market-competitive terms.
