- Asahi Linux merged M3-series support into its installer on Sept. 6, enabling official native installs for M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max machines while explicitly excluding the M3 Ultra.
- Core hardware now functioning includes webcam and internal microphones, USB up to the hardware limit of 10 Gb/s, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and hardware‑accelerated video decoding including AV1.
- Major gaps persist because full DCP support and 3D GPU acceleration are not ready; the lack of DCP causes sleep to fail and disables HDMI output on affected MacBooks.
- The installer currently requires Expert mode to limit exposure to early issues and the team aims to remove that gate in time for the Fedora 45 beta in the coming weeks.
- Basic M3 boot support exists in mainline Linux but Asahi says additional patches must be upstreamed, likely targeting Linux 7.4+, and the project is asking for community testing and sponsorship as it continues work.
