Overview

  • Rookie center fielder Denzel Clarke was placed on the IL retroactive to Monday after leaving Sunday’s game at Cleveland with right hip discomfort.
  • An MRI on Monday confirmed Clarke has a grade-two adductor strain and he is expected to begin a rehab program in roughly two weeks.
  • Veteran infielder Max Muncy was also sidelined on Tuesday with a fractured right hand sustained in the Athletics’ loss to the Texas Rangers.
  • Outfielders Carlos Cortes and Colby Thomas were promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to cover Clarke’s and Muncy’s roster spots.
  • Since debuting on May 23, Clarke has earned four MLB Electric Play of the Week honors and hit .230 with three homers and eight RBIs in 47 games.
