Arunachal Schoolgirls’ 65-Km March Prompts Approval of Subject Teachers

Higher-level approvals had stalled postings as the NGO-run residential school struggled to fill geography and political science roles.

Overview

  • More than 90 students from KGBV Nangnyo walked overnight from Nyangno to Lemmi, covering about 65 km to protest teacher shortages.
  • Senior students in Classes 11 and 12 led the march, calling for immediate postings in geography and political science.
  • Pakke Kessang DDSE Deepak Tayeng said appointments for those two subjects have now been approved following the protest.
  • Officials noted the students left without informing school authorities, reported that they were in good health, and arranged vehicles to take them back.
  • The department says two contractual teachers were recently engaged and other hires from a walk-in interview await higher-level clearance, while the headmistress reports adequate staffing in other subjects and completion of half-yearly coursework.
