Arunachal Pradesh to Launch First Commercial Coal Mine at Namchik-Namphuk on Monday

The long-delayed Namchik-Namphuk block, revived through a 2022 auction, is projected to deliver over Rs 100 crore a year to the state.

  • Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy will perform the Bhoomi Poojan, hand over the mining lease and flag off Coal Projects Private Limited (CPPL) machinery at the site.
  • The block in Changlang district holds an estimated 1.5 crore tonnes of coal reserves, according to the Coal Ministry.
  • The ministry says formal operations will replace illegal extraction with transparent, accountable mining practices.
  • Officials have been directed to expedite operationalisation to support employment generation in the region.
  • The government has also opened auctions for critical minerals, including two blocks in Arunachal Pradesh and five in Assam.
